What we do

Secret Harbour SLSC (SHSLSC) is the focal point of surf lifesaving activities within the City of Rockingham. Our members are dedicated to ensuring the safety of all beachgoers, spanning 35 kilometres of Rockingham coast with many hazards including sharks, tidal surges, and rips.

Our club has been associated with Surf Life Saving WA since 1998. Due to the club and its committed volunteers, Rockingham’s beaches are patrolled during the busy summer months as an essential service for our community. To prevent fatalities SHSLSC proactively patrols Secret Harbour beach and the Penguin Island (Mersey Point) sandbar where abalone fishing is popular. Each year the club delivers over 6,000 patrol hours with over 300 rescues and 3,000 preventative actions.

  • Beach monitoring, lifesaving and safety patrols
  • Provision of youth-based development programs including nippers and cadets

  • Surf sports training, competitions, and carnivals

Our club was originally established as the Warnbro Surf life Saving Club in 1980 with basic equipment but no clubhouse or storage facilities. As membership grew and more equipment was acquired support from Rockingham City Council, club fundraising and parental assistance saw the club establish a small gear shed at Waikiki Beach in 1983.

In the late 1980’s the club relocated to Golden Bay but was not able to establish a clubhouse at Golden Bay. In 1993 the opportunity to relocate to Secret Harbour arose and with the generous support of Secret Harbour Developments, The City of Rockingham, and the Lotteries Commission. Secret Harbour Surf Club opened its new club rooms on 9th December 1994.

For the next 20 years the club grew alongside the Secret Harbour community and the clubhouse infrastructure began to age and become unfit for contemporary needs. Construction of the current multi-million-dollar building commenced in 2015. The new building was completed in 2016 and now provides members with modern and dynamic club rooms to house equipment and technology for beach safety and patrols, general sport and recreation, multi-purpose meeting and function rooms, education and training areas, catering spaces and open-to-the-public gym. The pride of the club is the sundeck, where members meet for refreshments after a busy day on the beach overlooking the magnificent view of Secret Harbour beach.
