Weekly Update 27 August 2018
Well how time fly’s – it’s almost start of the new Surf Life Saving Season. Can’t wait!
There’s heaps happening around the club so make sure you are connected to the Club APP (down load from google play or the apple store) and regularly check the club calendar .
I’ll be sending out regular Crusaders Corners to the U14 – U19s and occasionally to the U13s (particularly post Chrissy as we encourage you guys to participate in our activities to get use to the transition to wider club and to our Cadet program) and to our Youth mentors for updates in our Crusaders Program.
FIRSTLY and REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT – your membership expires 30 September 2018
Guys we need to register your membership by the 30 Sept!
First Crusaders Info Meeting 7 pm 14 Sep at the club. I’ll have some Pizza for us to chew on while we chat about the upcoming season. There is lots happening in the Youth Space this year with a new Youth Program and a new Leaders Program for our 18+ Mentors. More on that on the 14th.
Surf Sports Training is also up and running with the guys and girls training during the week and on Sunday mornings from 9 am. If your interested in getting into some training please contact Head Coach Mark Muir at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There’s also boxing Monday nights U14+ from 6 – 7 pm and for 16+ core body fitness on Wednesdays from 6 – 7 pm at the club if your keen.
Registration Day is fast approaching for Sunday the 16 September 9 am -1 pm. We are looking for some help to assist with running a Crusaders info Table and also with the running of Pool Proficiencies at Secret Harbour State Swim from 12 – 1.00 pm. Please let me know if your available.

As many of you would know that Rise up and Toad camps are awesome opportunities.
Rise Up Camp
This camp is designed to cater for 15 and 16 year old members. This camp provides an opportunity for members to participate in a wide range of physical and social activities that will develop personal leadership skills.
Age Group: U17s
Venue: Pemberton Camp School, Pemberton
Date: 17 – 20 December 2018
Teamwork, Opportunity and Development (TOAD) Camp
The TOAD Camp is a development program open to 13 and 14 year old members. The camp is designed to expose participants to a variety of skills and activities that will enhance and encourage their development within our organisation.
Age Group: U14s and U15s
Venue: Kingstown Barracks, Rottnest Island
Date: 14 – 17 January 2019
Camp Leader Positions
The camps also provide some excellent opportunities for our older guys and girls to become camp leaders and I strongly encourage you to pursue the opportunity. If you keen drop me a line and we can have a chat about what it entails.
Club volunteers are invited to apply for camp leader positions on these camps. This is a great opportunity to enhance leadership skills and clubs are asked to identify and encourage members that they believe would be suitable for this role.
All Camp Leaders must have the following pre-requisite qualifications:
Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Be a current registered member of an SLSWA club.
Possess a Current Bronze Medallion.
Possess a Current Western Australian Working with Children Check
Season kick off outing – PERTH WAKE PARK Sunday 21 October TBC – U13-19 and MENTORS
I’ve made a tentative booking for the Perth Wake Park for the 21st October 8am-10am. This is an exclusive 2 hr Wake/Knee board session. The session will accommodate from beginners to expert. Cost $35 for participants (that includes our Crusaders Mums and Dads if they are keen). Spectators are Free and food is available at the Wake Park Café. I’ll be supplying some drinks.
SRC and BNZ COURSES
For our new Under 14s we will be kicking our Sunday morning in preparation for your SRC Assessment in Late Nov. We camp at the Club booked for the 17 and 18th. Please make sure you are available to attend – it’s an overnighter and has historically been a mountain of fun. As with last year our new SRCs will participate in an exercise with Rocking Volunteer Sea Rescue off Point Peron. Information flyer and consent forms for the camp will be available shortly.
This years BNZ Course kicks of Monday 01 Oct at the club commencing 7pm and will run Monday nights and Sunday Mornings through to early Dec. As with last year our new BNZs will participate in an exercise with Rocking Volunteer Sea Rescue off Point Peron.
IRB CREW COURSE
Megan is working a date for commencement of the IRB Crew Course post Bronze – so keep an eye out for this.
Crusaders (Cadet U14/U19) Camp – Legacy on Geographe 08 – 10 Feb 2019.
This camp is an awesome opportunity for the team to get together. Its held at Legacy on Geographe, 128 Caves Road, which is nestled on five acres, 11kms south of Busselton on the edge of Geographe Bay. The Camp is scheduled to begin on Friday 08 Feb 19 at 5pm and conclude around 4:30pm Sunday 10 Feb 19. The camp will expose Cadets to broader opportunities within Surf Life Saving and is a fitting reward for the cadets for their commitment over the summer months.Information flyer and consent forms for the camp will be available shortly.
